Miguel Ferreira is a Senior Scientist at VTT in field of Built Infrastructure of the Lifetime Management Research Area, joined VTT in 2012. He has earned M.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering on building repair and maintenance of concrete constructions, and a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering on probabilistic service life assessment of concrete structures in marine environments, from the University of Minho, Portugal. His research expertise and interests include deterioration mechanisms of cementitious composites, including interaction effects of multi-deterioration mechanism; Service life engineering (design, assessment, modelling, coupled limit state design, ageing management for concrete infrastructure); Performance assessment of products, infrastructure & buildings (durability, non-destructive evaluation, mineral by-products and eco-efficient cementitious alternatives); Effects of irradiation on concrete performance; Preservation of built heritage (mortars and grouts for masonry, industrial heritage – concrete infrastructure); and software development for civil engineering applications. He has supervised and participated more than 20 national and international research projects in these areas, as well as contract research project and is currently coordinating an SAFIR 2022 project on the Ageing of NPP concrete infrastructure (CONAGE). He has author or co-author of over 150 publications.
