New Methodology for Sample Preparation for X-ray Powder Diffraction of Radioactive Materials

The Research Centre Řež, an active partner of the ACES project, recently engaged in research related to the analysis of radioactive materials. As part of this research, a new methodology for sample preparation destined for X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) in non-nuclear laboratory diffractometers has been developed and successfully validated. This methodology is based on the safe and efficient handling of radioactive samples within a shielded glove box, enabling the analysis of materials with low activity at the laboratory scale. In this article, we will introduce the main principles of this methodology and illustrate it with a specific example of irradiated granite analysis.
